ST Aerospace Mobile, a MRO with special expertise in modifications
and engineering services, approached Day-Ray needing replacement of an
incandescent lighting system. The existing system caused time-consuming
lighting maintenance problems on cargo aircraftby requiring replacement of
32 bulbs every 1,000 hours. ST’s customer wanted to minimize downtime
needed for maintenance, but couldn't risk any loss of brightness as lighting
was critical to efficient cargo operations.

Day-Ray sent engineers to ST Aerospace Mobile to study the existing system and
maintenance procedures. Intent on improving both electrical and mechanical
functionality, the engineers returned to Day-Ray labs and went to work.

In a matter of weeks, Day-Ray developed an LED solution that was lighter, brighter, more
efficient, and easier to install. Day-Ray’s engineers maximized conversion efficiency, reduced
fixture weight by 32 percent, and eliminated a separate mounting plate, decreasing necessary
stock items. Best of all, the new LED lights would last 25,000 hours, cutting maintenance by
hundreds of man-hours.

Within days a prototype was given to the client to test, with a complete ship set following a few
weeks later. The project was completed in just a few months, on schedule and on budget.

If you need a custom lighting, battery power supply or transformer solution, Day-Ray offers innovation that's on time and on budget.
